Chetana Sudame
Chetana’s art journey blends her diverse academic background as well as her extensive travels. After completing her Masters in Environmental Science she had a brief stint at J.J. School of Art
Mumbai and have studied art foundation at Raheja school of Art, Mumbai followed by short course of drawing and Painting in Slade School of Art, University College London, UK.
Indian folk art, especially Miniature paintings and Madhubani art have inspired Chetana’s work in the initial years and the influence of its story telling tradition is still visible in her work.
Her paintings explore the feminine and its numerous social and psychological aspects. Acrylics on canvas and mixed media on paper are her preferred mediums.
My paintings are a reflection of my understanding of the world around me.
I like to tell stories I see unfolding in everyday life.
My paintings explore femininity and its numerous social and psychological aspects. I feel that a woman is a strong, powerful and creative force of nature, but society has made her to be vulnerable and dependent.
She is always considered fragile and delicate. In spite of these societal challenges, the way she dreams of freedom and liberation gives me inspiration, which becomes the subject of my work.
I believe everyone dreams of breaking free from their personal prisons and everyone deserves to be free to pursue their dream of a New World.
